Search google through SMS in India
Google, the most heard name for the net junkies launches an SMS-based search service in India. With the help of this service you simply need to Text message your search query to 54664 ('5GOOG' on most devices) and google will text message back results.
Google took this initiative because in India the number of people using GPRS service is quite less, and cant access google. Thus with the help of this service people just need to sms their query from any normal phone to google and they can get back the result through sms.(sounds simple).
Right now this service is undergoing tests and is available in four metro cities of India – delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
According to google the queries sent to google will be charged at the following rates:-
Aircel: Rs. 3.00
Airtel: Rs. 2.00
BPL: Rs. 3.00
BSNL: Rs. 0.80/1.00 (post-paid/pre-paid)
Reliance: Rs. 3.00
( No VODAFONE ???)
I tried using this service through my Airtel Mobile phone and found it to be great. I searched for the term “Mumbai weather”.
And thats what I got from google.
